Dhivehi film 'Kamana' unveils its title at Olympus

The Dhivehi film, 'Kamana' has launched its title yesterday during a ceremony held in Olympus Stadium. The movie, depicting scenes of domestic violence will be released to theaters on August 27.

The Dhivehi film 'Kamanaa' which translates to 'Lady' has launched its title at a ceremony held in Olympus Stadium yesterday.

Based on true events, this movie is presented by the Kid Production and Saturn Studios and was produced by Shaniz Ali, who also produced the the renown film 'Loabivevijje' (Fallen in love), along with Hussain Munawwar.

The film displays a happy and loving couple in Haa Dhaalu atoll Molhaidhoo soon after they realize they're expecting. A dark cloud soon casts a shadow over their happy life and the movie navigates the life of the female lead, Rimsha, as things take a turn for the worst.

Notably, scenes of domestic violence is also depicted in the film, addressing the frightening high levels of such violence in Maldives.

The producers also revealed that the most special aspect of the film were the changes the lead actress, Mariyam Azza had to make to her body in order to adapt into the role of the female lead. This also marks the first instance where such a role is acted by Azza and the male lead, Yoosuf Nizam Moosa (Youppe).

Moreover, the characters depicted by Asha, Dhaaraa Rasheed, Mohamed Manik and Nathaa also holds a consequential significance to the movie.

The screenplay of 'Kamana' was written by Mahudhee Ahmed based on a story by Rishfa Abdul Samad. While it was directed by Hussain Munawwar, this marks the third film adapted by Munawwar to a screenplay written by Mahudhee.

This film is set to premiere at the Olympus Stadium on August 27 this year.
