Authorities, including banks, have urged the public not to share personal information or OTPs with unknown parties to avoid falling victim to such schemes.
Police has asked the public to be vigilant about a scam falsely claiming that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has reopened applications for flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme.
Police, in a post on social media platform X, said that the scammers through messages share a link to a fake application form, claiming that HDC has reopened application for housing.
The government has not yet reopened applications for the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme. The Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development previously stated that the list recipients for flats under the scheme would be announced by the end of October.
This scam is part of a larger trend, where fraudsters attempt to extort money by posing as housing providers.
Authorities, including banks, have been urging the public not to share personal information or OTPs with unknown parties to avoid falling victim to such schemes.
