Faisal and Shaheed appointed as High Court judges

The Vice President of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Mohamed Faisal and Criminal Court Judge Hussain Shaheed, appointed to the High Court this Tuesday.

At the oathtaking ceremony Faisal and Shaheed were sworn in by Supreme Court Judge, Abdul Ghani Mohamed.

Prior to Faisal's appointment, JSC confirmed that he had resigned from his position as President Abdulla Yameen’s representative member.

The High Court's former Chief Justice Dr. Abdulla Didi and Judge Abdul Ghani Mohamed have recently been appointed as Supreme Court judges, leaving two posts vacant at the High Court.

In addition, according to a recent amendment made to the Judge's Act, eleven judges are to seat the High Court bench.

However, JSC is yet to announce the two remaining appointees to the High Court.

Currently, High Court judges are allocated a monthly salary amounting to 54,000 Rufiyaa.
