The flagship carrier of the island nation; Maldivian has decided to discontinue its direct flight operations to Sri Lanka just over a week after commencing.
Maldivian started landing its flights at Sri Lanka's Ratmalana Airport, Colombo, on Sunday, previous week.
Although the airline's maiden voyage flight made landing at Ratmalana Airport on Sunday, all four scheduled flights following it had been canceled.
Meanwhile, Maldivian had noted that the airline received comparatively few bookings for its flights.
Due to its decision to discontinue direct flights to Sri Lanka, it had provided seats from alternative airlines for the customers who booked with them earlier.
Island Aviation Services Limited, the parent company of the Maldivian airline, claims it had anticipated the outcome earlier.
Though the airline has discontinued its operations to Sri Lanka, Island Aviation had affirmed that this was only a temporary decision and the carrier will commence operations in May 2022, once again.
