It has come to light that the child sex offenders registry is not updated regularly.

Among the several discrepancies noted, is that the registry states that certain individuals are still in imprisonment although they were already released.

Assistant Director of the Ministry of Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services Ibrahim Mohamed stated that the website was not updated due to lack of updates from relevant institutions. He stated that the information on the registry was sourced from the police, the Prosecutor General's Office and Maldives Correctional Service (MCS).

The registry, which details information regarding individuals convicted of sexual offences against minors, was introduced in 2015. In addition to charges and court-imposed sentences, the registry will contain full names, pictures, physical descriptions, notable features and other basic information of the offender.

If charges against a defendant are dismissed after the submission of an appeal, the individual's name will be removed from the sex offenders registry and names will also be omitted from the list if an offender passes away.
