The Criminal Court has sentenced a man to 28 years in prison after he was found guilty of two counts of child abuse.
Nishan Ibrahim, a resident of Baa atoll Hithaadhoo, has been charged with touching a child with explicit sexual intent. The incidents took place in 2019 when Nishan repeatedly visited the child and engaged in inappropriate physical contact with them.
Despite Nishan's denial of the charges, the court concluded that there was sufficient evidence presented by the state to prove the offense beyond a reasonable doubt.
Nishan has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for each count of child abuse, totaling a sentence of 28 years in prison. The hearing was presided over by Judge Ismail Shafeeu.
