The Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef will retire from the army next month.

Abdul Raheem, who heads the army, will retire as he turns 60 on the 17 th of April and he has informed the top officials of his decision to resign with dignity.

According to the Army Act, the maximum age to work for the army is 60 years. If the Act is not amended, Raheem will remain in office for just over thirty days.

While serving his tenure as Vice Chief of Defence Force, he was appointed as the Chief when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was sworn in as the President of the Maldives on 17th November 2023.

Raheem, with 37 years of experience serving in the army, had previously intended to retire with the new administration. However, he remains in office as he turns 60 years of age in the next month.
