Maldives Police Service on Thursday, announced the seizure of 61.06 kilograms of heroin and arrested 11 Maldivians over the course of the operation.
In a joint sting operation run by the Drug Enforcement Department and the Marine Police, authorities confiscated approximately MVR 72 million (USD 466,900) worth of heroin from a fishing vessel docked at capital city Male'.
During the bust, police arrested a total of seven Maldivians aboard the vessel, while four more were brought in from Male' and reclaimed suburb Hulhumale'.
Although police are investigating the matter, no further details were shared.
On February, police seized over nine kilograms of narcotics and arrested eight Maldivians over the course of two operations in a bid to bring down a major drug ring in the country.
