Maldives biggest culinary challenge kicked off Sunday, October 9 with 450 chefs.
The challenge, organized by Hotel Asia Exhibition, is attended by nearly 500 chefs from various resorts in the country each year. This year, chefs from 60 resorts hailing from 14 countries had participated in the challege.
Culinary students studying at Maldives National University (MNU) are also among this year's participants.
This year's culinary challenge is also designed to include challenges in different categories. Most of them are various types of "hot cooking" challenges.
This year's competition includes a team challenge and a fruit and vegetable carving challenge, three desert challenges, a tea challenge and an iced mocktail challenge.
Culinary challenges' Project Director & Chief Judge Alan Palmer said many chef's are participating in multiple categories in this years challenge, boosting the excitement and competitiveness of the tournament.
"A total of dishes 658 will be presented during the competition. It is a pleasure to see chefs competing in multiple categories. Aside from one rookie judge we will see local chefs leading the judging panel", he said.
This year's competition is judged by a panel of 24 World Chef's Association certified judges. They include those who judged the competition in previous years. This year, eight Maldivian chefs will participate as rookie judges.
The culinary challenge will last for four days and will be held at MNU.
