Maldives Customs Service has confiscated illicit narcotic substances smuggled via Post.
The authority confirms the confiscated content was worth MVR 1 million in street value. The substances were distributed among several parcels couriered to the Maldives through Maldives Post.
Customs report they nabbed the content on June 29, 2022.
Post preliminary analysis of the content, it had tested positive for 'Mephedrone', a synthetic stimulant drug of the amphetamine and cathinone classes, popularly known either as M-CAT or 'Meow Meow'.
This marked the second instance in 2022, of smuggling M-CAT into the Maldives, reports Customs. The substances weighed a combined total of 526 grams.
Customs have already handed the substances, and a suspect to Maldives Police Service.
The first smuggling instance of M-CAT was reported on March 1, 2022. Authorities nabbed 585 grams of the substance that time.
