The appeal trial of two death row inmates who were convicted of murdering Abdul Muheeth (Bobby) in Malé 12 years ago has once again been delayed.

Criminal Court, in 2019, convicted two of the three individuals charged with murdering Bobby with a sharp object in the alley in front of Finance Ministry in 2012. They are Mohamed Maimoon (Lhaviyani atoll Naifaru) and Muhujath Ahmed Nahis (Gaafu Dhaalu Gadhhoo).

The pair appealed the verdict in High Court, and a hearing was held today in which their lawyers requested the bench for the opportunity to amend the appeal application forms. However, this request was denied.

The lawyers also informed the judges that they were not prepared to present the appeal points today. In light of this, judges provided the opportunity to present the points at the next hearing, and stressed that it would not be further delayed.

The appeal process was previously delayed due to Maimoon and Muhujath changing their lawyers.

High Court's judges reviewing the case include Justice Abdul Maaniu Hussain, Chief Justice Hussain Shaheed and Justice Fathimath Faruheeza. The presiding judge in the case is Judge Abdul Maaniu Hussain.

Another two minors were also charged and convicted in connection to Bobby's murder. Both were given the death sentence in 2013 by Juvenile Court. They both also appealed the case in High Court, which was sustained. Their case is now in Supreme Court.
