Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon has said that all the details regarding the acquisition of military drones from Turkey will be shared with the Parliament's Committee on National Security (241 Committee).

While three military drones bought from Turkey have been in operation under the newly formed MNDF Air Corps since March 15, the costs and other details regarding the acquisition have not been revealed so far.

With Defence Minister Ghassan being summoned to Parliament today where he is obliged to respond to questions posed by members of parliament, many MPs based their questions surrounding specifically this issue.

Responding to a question posed by West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef , Ghassan affirmed that the procurement of drones had been conducted in an absolutely transparent manner, and all relevant policies to ensure this had been abided by.

"It was done within the set guidelines. However, it is not something done in any country to reveal cost details of military processes in a forum such as this. Hence, I object to disclosing that information here," he responded.

Ghassan went on to say that if relevant authorities chose to see the transactions around the matter, then all the proper documentation was in place, and if the parliament so requests, it can be shared with the 241 Committee.

"That information can be disclosed in a closed meeting of the 241 Committee," the Minister said.

Responding to further questions, Ghassan echoed President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's earlier statements, saying that while some of the drone related equipment had been given as free aid, some had been procured through the use of State funds.
