Census: Data collection for Maldivians living abroad has started

Maldives Beaureu of Statistics have started to collect information on Maldivians living abroad for the census.

According to a social media post by the beaureu on Wednesday, they have commenced collecting information on Maldivians living abroad. This survey will be conducted until the end of this month.

The beaureu has requested Maldivians living abroad to fill the form on their website within this period.

The previous census in Maldives was conducted eight years ago. According to the data released by Maldives Beaureu of Statistics last month, the results of the census conducted this year show that the Maldivian population in the country is 355,331.

This is 16,897 more than the total number of Maldivians living in Maldives from the 2014 census. That year's census showed 338,434 Maldivians lived in Maldives at the time. Census results show that expatriates living in Maldives has increased by 33,000 compared to 2014. Then 63,637 expatriates had lived in the country while this year's census results indicate over 97,000 foreigners currently live in Maldives.

Beaureu of Statistics have said they have so far collected 89 percent of the Maldivian population living in both Maldives and abroad. They were working to collect the information of people they have not been able to contact as well.

The beaureu has requested to contact them via their hotline 1423 or their phone number 3008400 if an individual's data have not been collected for the census. The data can be submitted via an online form on their website as well.
