State Trading Organization (STO) said it prioritizes on reducing hazardous chemicals during cement manufacturing.
The state-owned enterprise's Chief Executive Mr. Hussain Amru recently affirmed on the corporation strictly inspecting the quality of the cement imported to Maldives as well.
STO recently introduced eco-friendly cement, which reportedly will reduce 36 tons or carbon-dioxide, that is otherwise included in cement.
According to Mr. Amru, this eco-friendly adoption of cement is equivalent to planting over 1,100 trees.
Global cement manufacturers have actively been working on reducing the inclusion of poisonous chemicals in the process to promote safer output.
Recent reports also indicate that nearly 3 tons of cement per head is used on a daily basis towards various infrastructural and urban development.
Moreover, increased gentrification projects have also resulted in the increment of cement production and supply.
As such, production and manufacturing of cement has observed an annual increment by 2.5 percent.
In 2016 the global cement production totaled at 2.55 billion tons while by 2050 the production total will increase by 4.4 billion tons.
