Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, departed on an official visit to the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK) and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Minister Shahid is scheduled to call on the senior officials of the US Government in Washington DC, including officials from the Department of State and the Department of the Treasury.
During the meetings, the Minister will explore further means to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two governments, including ongoing programmes to assist Maldives in its democratic consolidation.
Afterwards, Minister Shahid will travel to New York, delivering a statement at the United Nations Security Council Open-Debate on the topic of “Addressing the impacts of climate-related disasters on international peace and security”.
The Minister will sit down with Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) António Guterres and other officials of the UN.
Following the visit to USA, the envoy will travel to the UK to attend a meeting of the Governing Council of the Community of Democracies. Additionally, Minister of Foreign Affairs will be meeting the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and other officials from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office during his visit to London.
With the conclusion of his diplomatic mission to the UK, Minister Shahid will then travel to UAE, holding bilateral talks with the government as a follow-up to the recent official visit to the country by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Minister Shahid is part of a high-level delegation that includes the Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam, Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail and Policy Secretary at the President's Office Aminath Shauna.
The Minister is accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel during the mission to the USA and UK.
