The Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) has filed a case at the High Court challenging the Elections Commission's (EC) decision to dissolve the party.

In December 2022, EC made the decision to dissolve the DRP as a political party since they lacked the requisite number of members. As per the law, with less than 3,000 members can be dissolved by the commission.

However, the Political Parties Act states that a case relating to parties can be dealt with by the High Court at the initial stage.

Due to the Election Commission's decision to dissolve the DRP, which was once the country's biggest opposition party, the party has been instructed not to engage in any political activities. Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir is the leader of the party.
