Welfare for Island Cats (WIC) has built a row of dedicated small cat shelters for the stray cat population that frequents the area near Salman Mosque.
WIC, an NGO that advocates for felines through rescue and rehabilitation, stated on their social media X account that they had awaited over a month for a response from authorities regarding a location where these cat houses can be placed.
After still failing to receive a response, the NGO decided to proceed with placing the cat houses on a side of the parking lot in the Salman Mosque area.
WIC highlighted that the flooding of Male' streets with every instance of even moderately heavy rain poses severe risk to stray cats, with two kittens having lost their lives even in last Friday's downpour.
The NGO stated that they did not want to remain without taking what action they can to prevent such unnecessary risks from occurring again, and hence had made the decision to place the cat houses despite not receiving an official response from authorities.
