Charges filed against by some of the suspects out of the 10 apprehended on a 72 kilograms drug bust have been rescinded owing to lack of evidence.
The substances were confiscated amid smuggle into the island nation borders. Authorities seized the contents in December 20, which was followed by multiple arrests.
Authorities nabbed Irfan Thagiyyu (Seenu Atoll Hithadhoo), siblings Abdulla Wisam and Mohamed Wisam (Raa Atoll Inguraidhoo), Ahmed Naseer (Dhaalu Atoll Maaenboodhoo), Ali Ahmed (Male' City), Mohamed Akram (Male' City), Mohamed Shareef (Haa Dhaalu Atoll Nolhivaram), Mohamed Furuqan (Laamu Atoll Gan), Mohamed Wajeeh (Thaa Atoll Thimarafushi) and Ahmed Shinan (Raa Atoll Rasgetheemu).
State rescinded their charges on all the suspects except for Akram, Irfan and Naseer on Monday, November 7.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor General's Office confirms the charges were dropped after identifying that the evidence against the suspects were not air-tight enough for convictions.
The narcotic substances were smuggled into Maldives via sea and loaded into a car in mainland Male'. Authorities apprehended the suspects amid transporting the items.
