Cava Club Tournament: Police and WAMCO win first matches

The two Maldivian teams, Police Club and WAMCO, will faceoff tonight.

Police Club and WAMCO both secured victories in their opening matches of the Asian Central Zone (CAVA) Women's Club Championship, which began in the Maldives yesterday.

Following the conclusion of the women's national team tournament on Wednesday, the championship kicked off with WAMCO and Police Club; two of the most successful women's volleyball teams in the Maldives.

The Tajikistan national team, which participated in the previous tournament, will continue to compete in the club championship under the name VC Diamond Club.

WAMCO faced off against Sri Lanka's Air Force Club in the first match yesterday afternoon, winning 3-1. Air Force Club took the first set 25-20, but WAMCO bounced back to win the next three sets 25-23, 25-15, and 25-19.

In the second match last evening, Nepal's Police Club defeated Uzbekistan's Humo in straight sets, winning 25-19, 27-25, and 25-19.

The tournament's official opening ceremony took place before the Maldives Police Club match against VC Diamond, with former volleyball player and Deputy Minister of Sports Aishath Nazima opening event. Maldives Police Club went on to defeat VC Diamond in straight sets, with scores of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-19.

Each team in the tournament is allowed to field one foreign player, with both Maldivian teams bringing in international talent. The two Maldivian teams, Police Club and WAMCO, will faceoff tonight.
