Education Minister revealed that the study of Dhivehi and Islam by Maldivian students abroad will commence next week and remarked that the study was halted earlier due to negligence.
Education Minister, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has stated that the halted study of Dhivehi and Islam in Malaysia and Sri Lanka will resume next week.
Dhivehi and Islam subjects has been previously taught in Sri Lanka, India and Malaysia.
Speaking at the ceremony in Thaa Atoll Vandhoo as part of his travel around Thaa Atoll prior to the parliamentary elections, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated that despite commencing the study of Islam and Dhivehi at foreign countries where Maldivian student population is high, due to the negligence of the former government, the study was discontinued.
“Within next week, the special program for teaching Dhivehi and Islam subjects to Maldivian students will re-commence.” Minister Shafeeu stated.
“The program was there before. However, as the previous government hadn’t given much attention to the program, the study in Lanka was also discontinued a while back. The program commenced in Malaysia was also halted.”
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had previously declared that the education of Dhivehi studies and Islamic ethics will expand to additional countries accommodating Maldivian students.
The education of Maldivian students residing out of the country on the subjects of Islam and Dhivehi was begun under former President, Abdulla Yameen’s leadership.
