Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi announced on Wednesday the establishment of an oncology hospital in the reclaimed suburb of Hulhumale' in Maldives.

PM Modi made this statement while delivering his remarks during the video conference held with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to commemorate four agreements between India and Maldives.

Speaking about India's contributions to the development of Maldives, Modi added that a cricket field will also be built in Hulhumale', in addition to the hospital.

"India will always aid Maldives in infrastructural development, human resources and democracy", affirmed Modi.

Adding that India values the current administration's attention to developing Addu City in the southernmost atoll, Modi iterated that India will also contribute to these developments.

Modi went on to declare that the bilateral relations between the two countries were of utmost importance, noting that the number of tourists travelling from India to Maldives has now doubled.

He further announced that direct scheduled flights will start operating from three Indian cities to Maldives.

Highlighting the accomplishments of President Solih's first year in office such as democratic progress and strengthened bilateral cooperation, Modi asserted that Maldives and India nurture a heart-to-heart connection.
