Cafe', restaurants allowed to remain open until 2230hrs

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Sunday announced that a new amendment was brought to their guidelines for cafes' and restaurants, allowing them to remain open until 2230hrs.

As per the directive signed by the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru, cafes, restaurants, tea shops and other food establishments that provide dine-in services in the greater Male' region may be open until 2230 hrs.

Prior to this, establishments were required to close for dine-in customers by 2000hrs and only allowed delivery and take-away services until 2230hrs. A special permit had to be obtained for this form HPA.

After a long period of recording low numbers towards the end of 2020, Maldives is now experiencing its third wave of the pandemic.

With the spiking numbers, authorities have tightened the measure and re-introduced curfew which prohibits civilians from roads and public spaces between 2300 to 0430 hrs, while vehicle movements are banned between 1800 to 0600 hrs.
