Minister Zameer discussing President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's foreign policies, noted that the global community has accepted the government's reform agenda aimed at addressing the country's economic issues.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has stated that the economic and financial difficulties facing the Maldives are temporary and that friendly nations are providing assistance to help overcome these challenges.
According to Zameer, world leaders believe that the Maldives is on its path to economic recovery.
In an interview on Public Service Media (PSM)'s "Raajje Miadhu" program, Zameer discussed President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's foreign policies and noted that the global community has accepted the government's reform agenda aimed at addressing the country's economic issues.
Zameer, along with Finance Minister Dr Mohamed Shafeeq and Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib, visited China last week for extensive discussions with Chinese officials.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also sent a special letter to President Xi Jinping, who responded positively and assured assistance to the Maldives.
The Chinese government has agreed to defer the repayment of loans taken by the Maldives through the Exim Bank for various development projects for the next five years, based on their confidence in President Muizzu's reform agenda.
Additionally, India has supported the Maldives by deferring USD 50 million in debt.
"...Major international investors, heads of states, and global leaders believe that we are on the path to overcoming the current economic situation," Zameer said. He highlighted that the Foreign Ministry's team is working diligently to engage with foreign countries to advance President Muizzu's development agenda.
Minister Zameer also noted that Maldivian missions abroad are actively working to attract investments and promote tourism, resulting in approximately USD 160 million allocated to the Maldives for various projects.
