The Parliament's Government Oversight Committee has decided individually give approval for the cabinet ministers at the parliament.

The committee members agreed to call for individual voting on each of the 22 cabinet ministers appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The Chair of the committee, West-Maafannu MP Mohamed Falah, highlighted that the parliament earlier requested to verify if the Minister of Housing and Public Works Dr. Ali Haidar and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Mariyam Mariya held dual citizenship or not.

MP Falah also noted that both the ministers relinquished their foreign citizenship before they were sworn in.

Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed Shafeeu said that all of the members appointed for the cabinet fulfilled their legal requirements.

He proposed to hold all 22 ministers eligible for their positions, and submit the names to the parliament to call for votes individually for each minister.

The committee members unanimously agreed with the MP's proposal, and passed the list for parliament's voting.

Although the third term of the parliament expired by November end, the term has been extended to December 18.

With the parliament's final term of the year close to a wrap-up, it is believed that the parliament would seek the ministers' approval on the agenda sometime this week.

However, several members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which holds the majority in parliament, have spoken against some of the ministers. Despite warnings from MDP members against giving approval for the ministers, the party's parliamentary group has not announced an official decision on the matter.
