MVR 2 million stolen from MIFCO

A group of robbers stole MVR 2 million from a van of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), in capital Male' on Wednesday.

The van was stopped by four men on motorcycles wearing helmets to conceal their identity.

The assailants shattered the window on the driver's side and damaged the windshield.

According to some local media reports, one of the three MIFCO staff inside the van at the time suffered injuries during the robbery.

The police have not released a statement regarding the matter yet.

Robbery in Male’ has been increasing as of late. On March 10, a group of helmet-clad robbers stole over MVR 2 million from an Indian national near State Bank of India (SBI). Six men were arrested over the crime, but the money is yet to be recovered.

In addition, several incidents of theft were reported in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’ over the last two months. While those targeted are vehicles transporting large amounts of money, police have not provided details consistent with the burglaries.
