Five members of newly elected Executive Committee of Football Association of Maldives resigned to force an election over row with the new FA Chief.

Vice President Ali Umar, Executive Committee members Ahmed Shakeeb, Mohamed Easa, Assad Abdul Ghani and Aishath Nazima were the five members resigned.

“I ran for the post with the intention to make a difference and to show the football family that the newly elected executive committee will be a different class of members. However, few weeks on things have started to chance drastically. I have witnessed that decisions are been made without any consultation or knowledge of the executive committee members. Huge decisions that involves huge expenses been made upon approval of only couple of members. These were the things that were done in the previous managements that started the issues with the FAM. I can witnessed the whole system of FAM has been changed and the order of the house has been damaged. I can see biased decisions being made towards different clubs. There are huge gaps within the FAM on the information flow and staff not knowing whom to follow and what their tasks are.” Vice President Ali Umar said in his resignation letter.

In the Article 33.9 of the statutes of FAM says that if more than half the positions of the Executive Committee become vacant, the Emergency Committee shall convene an Extraordinary Congress in order to elect a new Executive Committee for a new term of office.

If the Emergency Committee lacks the required quorum, the General Secretary shall convene an elective Extraordinary Congress within the prescribed period of time.

The resignations came a day after general secretary Bassam Adeel Jaleel was sacked.
