Manta Air, the new domestic airline, began its operations after Maldives Civil Aviation Authority granted full authorization on February 14.

The statement released by Maldives Civil Aviation revealed that Manta Air was issued the Air Operators Certificate (AOC).

The airline commenced its operation with one of the latest generation of the ATR series, an ATR-72600 equipped with 64 seats. The airline offers passengers to choose from either ‘Sapphire’ class or ‘Comfort’ class.

Currently, Manta is only operating its flights from Velana International Airport (VIA) to Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll. Furthermore, Manta announced that they will start regular flights to Dharavandhoo in Baa Atoll and Thimarafushi in Thaa Atoll in the near future.

Two aircrafts have been flown into Maldives for Manta Air operations, although the company initially planned to commence with a fleet of three ATR 72 airliners and four seaplanes.
