Famous Bollywood star of the 1980’s and former Femina Miss India, Poonam Dhillon, is to hold a special fair at Dharubaaruge convention centre on Sunday to showcase her clothing line, “Poonamspopupstore”.
According to the event’s organiser Aminath Ibrahim Didi, the fair will feature Indian style dresses, kurtas and the latest Western style fashion trends in India.
Poonam Dhillon will also attend the fair which will be held Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The actress also held a similar event in Sri Lanka late Friday to promote her new clothing line.
Poonam Dhillon and Aminath Ibrahim Didi share a close friendship that took its roots in 1986 during the shooting of some scenes of Poonam’s film, Samundar, which took place in the Maldives.
“We’ve been good friends since then. This fair was born out of that friendship,” said Aminath, going on to say that should Poonam’s designs gain popularity amongst Maldivians, she will organise more fairs to expand the market.
Aminath added that they had previously planned to hold the fair last month.
Poonam Dhillon first caught the eyes of film directors when she was crowned Miss Young India in 1978 at the age of 16. She now has over 80 films under her belt including hits such as “Karma” and “Naam”. Her most recent appearances were in “Ramaiya Vastavaiya” (2013) and “Double DI Trouble” (2014).
