Maldives main bank announced Wednesday that it has increased sales of US Dollars for up to 700 airplane tickets per day due to the high demand prior to the upcoming Eid holidays.

With the approach of the Eid holidays which begin next Monday, queues outside of Bank of Maldives Ltd (BML)’s Bazar Branch have significantly lengthened over the past few days.

According to BML, their increased daily US Dollar sales of up to 700 tickets will last until the end of this week. The bank has sold USD 1.1 million from last Sunday until the end of Tuesday this week.

“Bank of Maldives always works to cater to the demand for Dollars,” said the bank in a statement.

BML had also increased their daily Dollar sales from 350 tickets per day to 500 tickets prior to the beginning of the Islamic month of Hajj as pilgrims prepared to depart for their holy pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The bank also declared itself as the frontrunner for the highest sale of US Dollars for local travellers in the Maldives, citing the number of its customers as a testament.
