Import-Export revenue up 13 percent in 2018

Maldives Customs Service revealed that MVR 47 billion worth of goods were imported while the revenue from Import-Export increased by 13 percent in 2018.

The statistics show that Imports increased by 25 percent in 2018, while MVR 38 billion worth of goods were imported in 2017.

Maldivian exports, on the other hand, amounted to MVR 2.8 billion, which is a 9 percent decrease compared to the MVR 3 billion in 2017. Taxes and tariffs on exports and imports brought in MVR 3.3 billion in 2018.

In December 2018, MVR 4.2 billion worth of goods were imported and MVR 525 million worth of goods were exported. The government earned a revenue of MVR 327 million in December, which is an increase of 14 percent compared to December 2017.

The top importers to Maldives in 2018 include UAE, China, Singapore, India and Malaysia. The top exports of Maldives include Thailand, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and France.
