Ministry of Tourism recorded tourist arrivals at 1.4 million for 2018.

Speaking at a press conference, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed revealed that the tourism industry gained a profit growth of 5.3 percent during the previous year.

The largest amount of tourist arrivals came from Europe, with the region comprising over 48 percent of all tourist arrivals, meanwhile, the highest number of arrivals from an individual country was China with 19.1 percent and Germany at a close second.

Over 130 resorts currently operate in Maldives. In addition, 12 hotels and 508 guesthouses are dedicated solely to tourists.

According to the Ministry, 148 liveaboards, 308 travel agencies, and 272 dive schools are registered with a total occupancy of 44,860 beds.
