Ooredoo launches packages curated for fishermen

Telecom giant Ooredoo Maldives, launched 'Masveringe Package', loosely translated as 'Fishermen's Package', on Tuesday, in celebration of Maldives' Fishermen's Day, which falls on December 10.

Specially curated for fishermen, the packages were launched by the Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Zaha Waheed and the Regional Manager of Sales at Ooredoo, Abdulla Saeed, at a ceremony held in Gemanafushi, Gaafu Alif Atoll.

'Masveringe Package' is available to all registered fishermen and automatically adds all subscribers to a closed user group, within which users are offered free calls and SMS, as well as a simple dialling option with a 4-digit shortcode. The package also comes with free Viber and Twitter usage.

Addressing the event, CEO of Ooredoo Maldives, Najib Khan, described the company as being "a close partner to fishermen since our initial establishment in the Maldives".

"The nature of a fishermen’s work requires frequent travel away from home, and our Masveringe Package supports them in keeping in touch with their loved ones at all times," said Najib.

According to Ooredoo, the packages allow for all fishermen to be connected via a common mobile network, which leads to better communication and productivity.

Users subscribing to the 'Masveringe Package' are also offered the opportunity to enjoy unlimited free calls and SMS with selected family members.

"Ooredoo will continue its investments in technologies that power secure and effective fishing practices in the Maldives," said Najib.

"Our best wishes to our friends in the fisheries industry of Maldives as we celebrate their hard work and dedication in one of the most challenging and important sectors for the nation".
