AngelHack, the world's largest hackathon, commenced in the Maldives with over 60 participants.
The hackathon is held every year, during which participants compete to build and launch new software solutions, with the winning team from each city invited to join the AngelHack Accelerator programme, the ‘HACKcelerator’.
Organized by local telecom giant Dhiraagu and Sparkhub, ‘AngelHack Maldives’, a stop in its tour of over 150 countries, had the event start simultaneously with four others. The event hosted on July 21 and 22 at Hotel Jen in capital Male, feature coding and marketing workshops incorporated into the Hackathon.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dhiraagu, Ismail Rasheed, said in his opening statements that Youth Empowerment is one of the key areas of focus in the company's CSR component, and Dhiraagu's stake in the hackathon is to provide unique opportunities to showcase and take Maldivian talents outside of the country.
SparkHub's Managing Partner Ali Haris stated the current IT industry in the Maldives is ever expanding, and that he believes that this is a wonderful opportunity for individuals to take their ideas international and build their networks.
