Maldives recorded a state revenue of MVR 1.3 billion for the month of June.

According to the official statistics of Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), the government revenue in June was 41 percent higher than that of last year, and 18 percent higher than the projected estimate.

Out of the total revenue, MVR 769 million was earned in US Dollars (USD 49.9 million).

Goods and Services Tax (GST) brought in the highest revenue with 35 percent, followed by tourism land rent fees at 22 percent.

MIRA explained that June 2018 had recorded a higher revenue than June 2017, as the authority had extended tax deadlines last year to July since Eid al-Fitr had coincided had fallen in June in 2017. The revenue recorded last month was greater as tax deadlines had not been extended this year.

The authority also attributed the higher revenue to an increase in land rent fees, due to several new resorts opened this year.
