Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) revealed Sunday that following an increase in demand for canned tuna, the company has upped the total amount of tuna cases released into the market to 4,500.

Managing Director Adli Ismail stated that MIFCO's canned tuna has been selling out daily, and thus the company is increasing the stock moved to the market during this Ramadan.

"In addition to canned tuna, the demand for fresh fish and frozen fish is also very high. We now have to bring in [new stock] every day from Kandu Oiy Giri," he said, referring to the island where MIFCO runs a fish factory.

According to Adli, MIFCO has been bringing in seven tonnes of fish to capital Male on a daily basis to meet the demand.

MIFCO sells fresh and frozen fish at a rate of MVR 80 per kilogram, and a kilogram of yellow fin tuna for MVR 800.
