Import-export rise, boost revenue in January 2018

With an increase in exports and imports, the revenue for January 2018 had gone up according to the latest figures released by Maldives Customs Service.

Customs announced that there was an increase of 17 percent in the amount of goods imported last month, compared to January 2017. Goods worth MVR 3.8 billion had been imported in January 2018, while the figure was at MVR 3.2 billion in January 2017.

The figures revealed that there was an increase of six percent in the amount of goods exported last month compared to January 2017. Goods worth MVR 474 million had been exported in January 2018, while the figure was at MVR 445 million in January 2017.

The statistics from Customs show that they had earned MVR 276 million as import duty and other fees in January 2018. This is 23 percent increase compared to January 2017.

The United Arab Emirates was seen as the biggest contributor to the import figures with 20 percent. Largest recipient of the export market was Thailand with 41 percent.
