Maldives main bank announced that total USD 5 million had been sold during the recently ended Eid holidays.

According to Bank of Maldives (BML)’s official statistics disclosed to Mihaaru, the bank had sold over USD 2 million to over 4000 customers over the last eight days of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The standard rate of banks for passengers flying abroad is USD 500 per head.

“We sold dollars to over 500 customers daily during that period with their numbers totalling over 4000. The staff of the dollar centre [BML’s Bazar Branch] tirelessly worked long hours during the last few days,” said BML.

The bank disclosed that customers abroad had made transactions of USD 3.4 million (MVR 52.4 million) via bank cards during the first ten days of July. Customers can make transactions of up to USD 600 daily and withdrawals of USD 400 daily with BML’s visa cash cards.

BML currently operates 29 branches in capital Male and among the atolls, catering to 265,000 customers.
