Within the program launched by Transport Ministry together with concerned State institutions, over 280 vehicles, mostly cars parked unlawfully across the streets of Male' region, has been demolished.
Over 280 vehicles unused for a prolonged period of time in Male’ and Hulhumale has been demolished.
Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation had commenced the process of towing unused vehicle parked on roads for an extended amount of time and demolishing them on the 17th of last month.
Over a post on social platform X today, the Ministry stated that 281 vehicles have been demolished under the “Traffic Decongestion Program” thus far.

Ministry of Transport launched this program in collaboration with Maldives Police Services, Male’ City Council, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) to resolve the obstructs to traffic flow as a result of an exceeded amount of land vehicles filling up the streets of Male' region.
Photos disclosed by the Ministry reveals a large number of derelict cars placed on the streets of Male’ and Hulhumale within the vehicles disposed. Most of these vehicles were placed on the roads of Male' unlawfully over a long period of time.
The issue of four wheeled vehicles parked unlawfully across both sides of the city streets, especially Boduthakufaanu Magu, has been escalating. The ensuing complaints as a consequence of elevated congestion in the city had prompted towing of vehicles. However, a change in traffic behaviour has not been observed so far.
