The Anti-Defection Bill submitted to parliament by opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) proposes that not only parliament members, but atoll and island councilors, as well as Women's Development Committee (WDC) members elected under decentralization policy, also lose their seats in the case of floor crossing.

The bill proposed by Baarah constituency MP Ahmed Abdulla states that if, after being elected, atoll council, island council, or WDC members move to another political party or leave the party they were elected through within their term, they will lose their seats.

It further states that any independent members that later join a political party mid-term will also lose their seat.

As per this bill, if an elected member is dismissed from membership by a political party, Elections Commission must conduct a recall vote in the related constituency. The member will only lose his seat if the constituents vote against him. However, if the member leaves the party of his own will, he must resign from the seat himself.
