Local authorities have arrested four individuals suspected of having ties to the assault on Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef on September 30, amid the runoff election.
A local gang entered Manhattan Business Hotel on last Saturday where they proceeded to assault the MP when he visited the venue to quell the commotion.
Maldives Police Service said they arrested one 27 year old local male and three 24 year old males as prime suspects in the case.
MP Shareef said that he was assaulted under the assumption that he was bribing for votes in the runoff election. He further alleged that the gang involved was affiliated with the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
In addition to MP Shareef, Addu City Feydhoo MP Mohamed Nihad was assaulted in his home atoll on the same day. Police said that they were investigating the case as well.
