Kanuhura Maldives resort in Lhaviyani atoll, which is owned and managed by Sun Resorts of Mauritius, has been relaunched after a major overhaul of USD 42 million (MVR 647.6 million).
According to Travel Daily News website, the project to revamp the resort included acquiring the neighbouring island of Masleggihura. The resort property now spans over the three islands of Kanuhura, Masleggihura and Jehunuhura.
Kanuhura is the main island for accommodation and other activities while the website describes Jehunuhura, featuring a Drift restaurant, and Masleggihura as uninhabited getaways for tourists to enjoy life and nature away from reality, accessible via short boat rides.
The revamped resort, which was originally unveiled two decades ago, is reopened with a new general manager, Robert Hauck formerly of Raffles Hotels and Resorts. He was appointed by Sun Resorts’ CEO David Anderson.
Celebrating the repeat guests Kanuhura has received over the course of 20 years, GM Hauck said that the resort looks to offer more experiences where visitors “can be free, unconventional, open, stay fit and totally relax.”
“We offer everything from total escapism and tranquillity on Masleggihura island to a 300-metre sea swim to Jehunuhura island, a 2.25km round island run on Kanuhura and soon to be launched Project South which will be the first martial arts academy in the Maldives led by two-time world Muay Thai champion, Irshaad Sayed,” he announced.
Kanuhura Maldives was closed down for renovation in August 2015. The resort featured 96 contemporary villas which have been brought down to 80 in number to cater for larger families. The villas include both beach and over-water pool villas with one- to three-bedroom suites.
