Maldives’ national carrier Maldivian stated Wednesday that they are set to increase their flights to meet the spike in demand for domestic travel for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holidays.

Maldivian’s operator Island Aviation Services’ head of administration Ali Nashaath told Mihaaru that they are deliberating to expand their fleet depending on the demand for domestic flights as Eid approaches.

“The highest demands are for islands with large populations. Flight bookings are nearly full for islands in the atolls of Addu, Gaafu Dhaalu and Gaafu Alif,” he said.

He added that flights for low demand destinations such as Fuvahmulah in the south are also receiving several bookings. However, there are openings for various other destinations, he said.

Nashaath further confirmed that they are not offering special fares for flights during the Eid holidays. The ticket fares are still the same determined by Maldivian at the beginning of the year.
