Maldivian, the airline division of Island Aviation Services confirms acquisition of two ATR 72-600s and one ATR 42-600 series turboprop aircraft in January 2022.
The two ATR 72-600s aircraft are scheduled to land at Velana International Airport (VIA) sometime today.
The three aircraft were initially set to join the Maldivian fleet in October 2022, which got delayed due to manufacturing issues. The total acquisition cost of the three aircraft is reportedly USD 60 million (MVR 925 million).
According to the Managing Director Maldivian, Mohamed Mihad, the airline expects to add three more aircraft by the end of 2023 for a total of 6 ATRs in its fleet.
Maldivian has temporarily leased an ATR 72-500 operated by Switfair to meet the high operational demand during the tourism peak season.
