Tourist arrivals from Russian market shows noticeable improvement, despite ongoing geo-political tensions.
According to the latest tourist arrival update from Ministry of Tourism, the country reported an annual total of 123,208 arrivals as of August 31, 2022.
Moreover, Russia has replaced United Kingdom to become the second strongest tourist market to the Maldives.
The ministry reports a total of 1,078,635 tourist arrivals by review date. Tourist arrivals observed a 42.7 percent annual growth when compared with same period in 2021, during which arrivals stood at just 755,966.
However, tourist arrivals in annual terms was still 4.9 percent below the corresponding period in 2019, during which it had already reached 1,134,071.
Source market rankings show India is still leading, Russia at second while United Kingdom slipped to third spot. Germany remains consistent at fourth. The rankings are;

The other key market that has shown noticeable improvement is Spain. The market initially was not among the top-ten source markets to the Maldives, up to June 1, 2022.
By June 8, Spain had replaced Austria to become the tenth strongest source market to the Maldives. The market remained consistent in tenth spot until July 20, and moved up to ninth spot replacing Switzerland by August 3.
Right now, Spain is the eighth strongest source market to the Maldives.
