Maldives Immigration announced that Gan International Airport in Addu atoll is now open to expatriate workers for travelling in and out of the Maldives starting Wednesday.

Speaking to Mihaaru, Immigration's spokesperson Hassan Khaleel stated that the aim of this development is to make it convenient for the expatriates employed in the southernmost three atolls to travel in and out of the Maldives via Gan Airport without the need to detour to capital Male.

Till date, expatriates were permitted to travel in and out of the country through Velana International airport (VIA) only. With the new arrangements, expatriates can use Gan International Airport with legal visa and unexpired passports.

However, expatriate workers coming to the Maldives for the first time should arrive at Velana International Airport as per Immigration's regulations.
