According to Expedia, 2022 will be the year of the GOAT, or "Greatest Of All Travels." Travelers want their next holiday to be the Greatest of All Travels (GOAT), and they're looking for transformative and significant trips. The company found that 65 percent of respondents in a study of 12,000 tourists in 12 countries want to "go big" on their next vacation. As a result, it dubbed the desire for adventurous and lavish vacations "the year's largest travel trend."

Taking a bucket-list trip isn't the only way to go big. It is about being immersive in the travel experience to gain more knowledge about the world and how it works in different cultures. Travellers will pursue their GOAT by moving outside of their comfort zone, immersing themselves in a destination, culture, and experiences that are radically different from their norm. It is about having the enthusiasm to learn and explore the globe, from sampling food they have never tried before, and experimenting with local delicacies, to attending a local music event and searching out -off-the-beaten path activities and destinations.

Travelers in 2022 are searching for more than just new tastes and places; they want to feel excited and exhilarated again, eager to try daring or high-adrenaline activities and experiences and looking for a memorable night out. Additionally, travelers are most thrilled about doing something they would never do otherwise on their next trip, such as sleeping under the stars, travelling alone, or having a vacation romance. It’s about having a sensorial and immersive experience to reset from the daily hustle.

A good trip is no longer defined by social media likes; instead, devices are being phased out, and travelers' goals are evolving to emphasize on staying present and conscious. More people are looking forward to seeking the opportunity to relax and do nothing. To be able to spend more time at their destination to fully experience everything it has to offer to achieve a sense of fulfillment. Travel in 2022 will be about quality rather than quantity, with travelers appreciating the simple joys in order to reach their GOAT with greater impact.
