Over 90 percent of the Maldives Airport Company (MACL) employees have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The company that operates Velana International Airport (VIA) said at least 99.9 percent of their employees have received one dose of COVID vaccines.

MACL introduced a vaccination program aimed to inoculate all airport staff in March of this year. In addition to MACL employees, 1,716 people that work in the airport and have an airport pass were also vaccinated under this program.

CEO and Managing Director of MACL Gordon Andrew Stewart said VIA was one of the first airports in the world to have achieved such a high vaccination rate.

“I am delighted that nearly all our staff are vaccinated. This is the most important thing we have done to ensure the safety our staff and passengers. I am proud to say that we are one of the very first airports to achieve this”, Gordon Andrew Stewart had said in a press release.

The precautionary safety restrictions implemented at VIA to ensure the safety of its passengers have been accepted globally as well. Airport Council International (ACI) had awarded MACL a Health Accreditation certificate in 2020, along with the "Voice of the Customer Recognition" award.
