Travelling from Maldives to Pakistan will be halted from Wednesday onwards.

Maldives is currently facing our worst COVID-19 surge so far. With the recent increase, Pakistan Embassy had informed the Tourism Ministry that Maldives have been put into "Category C" by Pakistan. Therefore travel from Pakistan to Maldives will be halted, the circular from Pakistan had said.

This decision will be in effect indefinitely, until Pakistan changes their stand on the matter. According to the change in policies, Pakistani nationals in Maldives can fly to their country, but no one else can.

If any other nationals want to travel to Pakistan via Maldives, special permission from the Pakistani government is required.

However, travel from Pakistan had been temporarily halted by Maldives previously, when issuing tourist VISA to South Asian countries was stopped earlier in May. Travel from Maldives to Pakistan was allowed though.

With the new change, travel from Maldives to Pakistan will not be permitted.

To stop the current surge in COVID-19 positives within the country, the government has announced a lockdown in the Greater Male' Area, and has strengthened the restrictive measures taken in the other islands of the country as well.
