Telecom giant Dhiraagu on Friday offered its customers a chance to win free data on the occasion of World Emoji Day.

Every year, since 2014, the company has been celebrating June 17, dedicated to the digital icons that revolutionized how people express their emotions, along with the rest of the word.

In celebration of this day, Dhiraagu offered customers a chance to win 5GB data for a lucky winner and his/her best friend, by following a few steps.

Those interested in taking part has to describe their best friend using three emojis, on either Dhiraagu Facebook or Twitter accounts. The offer expired by 2359 hours on July 18.

According to Dhiraagu, a winner will be chosen from both Facebook and Twitter.

The emoji used in today's world was created by Japanese artist Shigetaka Kuritta in 1999. As per the artist, these were developed for a telecommunication company in Japan to create an efficient flow of information. At the time, he created 127 designs with only a grid measuring 12 by 12 to make the original sketches.
