Soneva Group has unveiled its latest resort Soneva Jani developed in the island of Medhufaru in Noonu atoll.

The resort was officially opened last Friday and welcomed its first guests the next day.

Soneva’s new property is included among the largest resorts in the Maldives. It boasts 24 water villas and a single large villa inland.

The most remarkable feature of the resort is the incredible privacy it provides its guests with fewer number of rooms and larger than average expanses separating the villas. Soneva Jani is currently the resort with the fewest number of rooms compared to land area in the world.

Situated a 30 minute seaplane flight away from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA), Soneva Jani features restaurants offering a range of cuisines, clubhouses, spa and observatory. Soneva Jani is also the first resort in the Maldives to have a silent cinema.

Soneva Group’s CEO Sonu Shivdasani, who introduced first class tourism in the Maldives, also manages another property in the archipelago, Soneva Fushi in Baa atoll which was opened in 1995.

A string of new resorts have been unveiled in the Maldives this year with nine more to be opened, and another twenty to be unveiled in 2017. The developments have introduced more international brands to the Maldivian scene, such as the renowned InterContinental.
